Jane Eyre Tour

Jane Eyre Tour

At P&P Tours we are not only lovers of Jane Austen, we adore Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell and other classic period authors too. We are crazy about Charlotte Bronte’s novel Jane Eyre, and we have followed all the film adaptations avidly. Now – Brand new for 2015 – we are offering our unique JANE EYRE location tour for a select group of clients who want to follow in the footsteps of Jane Eyre herself, the author’s inspirations, the movie locations and the real places behind the book.

There have been at least 13 film adaptations of the novel to-date. The very first was a black a white silent film directed by Theodore Marston, starring Marie Eline as Jane and Frank Hall Crane as Mr Rochester in 1910.  Every decade since there have been films and TV mini-series.  Our top favorite is the 2006 BBC mini-series starring Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson.  The fantastic filming locations truly make us believe we are in Jane’s world.Peak District National Park

Most of the filming was done in the beautiful country side of Derbyshire in England. Moor House is where Jane grows in character and becomes financially dependent thanks to her uncle leaving her all his money.  Standing in for the fictitious Moor House is a real cottage which is located high up on the edge of the moors in the Peak District National Park.

On our Jane Eyre Tour we get to visit all of the main locations,  Gateshead, Lowood, Thornfield, Moor House, and the Reed family home, each location representing a new phase in Jane’s experience and development.

Haddon Hall Bakewell EnglandThornfield Hall is where a large part of the action takes place. The actual building is Haddon Hall in Bakewell in Derbyshire and is steeped in history which you will learn about on our tour. The house and grounds have been used in filming locations for at least 3 versions of Jane Eyre. Parts of the building are virtually unchanged since the medieval times which has made it a popular filming location for many adaptations including Pride and Prejudice, The Princess Bride, The Other Boleyn Girl and Elizabeth.
